Haircutting

I've been wanting to chop off my hair for a long while now, but just haven't had time to make an appointment until just recently. I went back and forth on about a gazillion different styles, but decided in the end to get something simple and easy. Bye bye long hair!

Camouflage All Day

On Me: Camo Sweatpants (Forever 21) | Sparkling Smoking Loafers (14th & Union)
On Him: Camo-cuffed jeans and sneakers (all Zara)

The camouflage trend is still going strong, and we are loving it! It's edgy, it's comfortable, and best of all, it goes with a gazillion things. We both created our own interpretation of how to wear camo today. Here's a sneak peek from our look. See the full #wiwt looks later today on montuethree!

On Snail Mail and Postcrossing

There are days when I am so grateful for a pen pal.  Texts and emails are of course faster and easier. Skype or apps like Snapchat up the communication flow even more. But once in awhile, when I'm not in a hurry, I loving taking the time to snail mail. The simple of act of jotting down a few thoughts to a dear friend is more than just practicing my penmanship. It's also being able to add a personal touch and knowing that within a few days time, they will hold in their hand this very card that I diligently picked out. It's so magical!

If you don't have a current penpal or if you would simply like to have more, I recommend checking out Postcrossing. This is an online community of members from all over the world who love to exchange postcards. The site is free and signing up is easy. I have sent and received quite a few postcards myself through this site. Not only have I learned a lot about other people's countries and cities through these exchanges, I've also accumulated quite a collection of unique and fun postcards that can be used in decoration projects later.

Oh, and a quick word about this fountain pen. I purchased this at Hand-Eye Supply during a recent trip to Portland. If you can't make it to the shop yourself, they have an online store that offers free shipping to anywhere in the U.S. for purchases over $75. The pen pictured here is the Kaweco Classic Sport Fountain Pen in Clear (link here). It writes super smoothly, and I love its compact, modern look.

My Journal Project

Have you ever searched the hashtag #hobonichi on instagram? If not, please do. You'll find the most adorable journals filled with illustrations, MT masking tapes, and snapshots of the instagrammer's daily life. For those of you who may not have heard of them, Hobonichi planners are extremely popular in Japan. They are year-long planners with pages dedicate to each one of the 365 days. The notebooks are grid-lined and have fun features such as moon phases, interesting quotes, and informational pages featuring things like national flowers and drinking coffee around the world.

While I don't have a hobonichi planner myself, I was inspired by what I saw on instagram to pick up journaling again. But rather than illustrating my actual day, I decided to create journal templates. They're basically just a themed page that I first illustrate and then write in. Part of the reason was also because I wanted to capture them in instagram, but didn't want to actually capture my super private thoughts for the world to see.

Check out some of my favorite instagrammers who also #hobonichi:

The End of Summer

On Me: Sunglasses (Marc by Marc Jacobs) | earrings, scarf, dress (all Forever21) | booties (Bass)
On Her: Sunglasses (Oliver Peoples) | denim jacket (JCrew Factory) | doggie-print dress (Anthropologie) | booties (Elizabeth & James)

Is summer almost coming to an end? I actually have no idea because living in SF, I tend to lose track of seasons. As Mark Twain famously said, "The coldest winter I've ever spend was a summer in San Francisco." What he didn't know (or at least didn't mention) was that SF is interchangeably cold, rainy, windy, mild, and even at times hot all year round. Hence, all seasons sort of blend together.

I still determine my seasons based on the school year calendar though, so mid-August to me means that I am near the end of summer. This usually means a huge increase in daily ice cream intake. Mint chocolate chip is the flavor of choice on most days.

The Genesis of My #WIWT Posts

The daily #wiwt photos began as a way to remember. My best friend at work (that's her on the right) had put in her notice, and we suddenly realized that the amount of time we shared together as coworkers would be quickly coming to an end. We thought about taking snapshots of our daily campus life, doing those fun and small quirky things that can only be found at this crazy amazing place where we call work. But because we did still have a full time job to work and because we weren't exactly good at doing those fun, quirky things, the daily photo quickly evolved into a stand, pose, smile #wiwt shot.

And then it started to really make sense that we took these because it also helped us keep track of what we wore the day, the week, the month before. With age, those types of memories will also quickly fail you. So we kept it going day after day.

I never thought that we would be able to keep it up for more than a week, but somehow we did. And even though we no longer see each other every day, #wiwt still manages to live on thanks to my amazing friends/coworkers who work behind the scene to take these daily photos (sometimes taking a gazillion until we can find one that works) and the new fashionistas/fashionmisters who stand by my side.

Hi. Hello. Heya.

Hi There! I'm the owner of MonTueThree. I'm creating this blog as a companion to my instagram feed that features #wiwt, journal designs, crafts, and all the other little things that I am inspired by in my daily life.

Thanks for visiting and hope to see you again soon!
